The Method
Ensure all equipment, utensils, and containers are clean and sanitised.
Wear Gloves and cover your hair.
Instructions
Melt the Wax
Gently melt the body butter candle wax using the double boiler set on low heat. If you don’t have the double boiler set, use the glass beaker and fill a pan with water. Place the beaker in the pan (this will create your double boiler) and heat gently over the stove. Avoid overheating to preserve the integrity of the wax. Heat gently up to 80°C (or until the wax has completely melted.) Stir in-between so the wax melts evenly.
Add the mica
For a lovely shimmer body butter candle, add in the mica at this point, so it melts in with the wax as you heat it. The mica is completely optional, may leave it out if you prefer.
Cool Slightly Before Fragrance
Remove the mixture from heat and allow it to cool slightly (warm, not hot). Between 40-50°C is the ideal time to add in the fragrance oil of choice. This helps to prevent fragrance evaporation. Stir gently and thoroughly for a minute to ensure even distribution of the fragrances.
Prepare the Container
Secure the wick in the candle jar, using a wick sticker. Ensure that it is centred and stable in the jar.
Pour the Candle
Carefully and slowly pour the mixture into the candle jar. After pouring, use the wick placeholder to keep the wick at the centre of the candle. Be careful not to pour all the way to the brim. Leave enough space so that when you close the lid, it doesn’t touch the wax. Allow the candle to cool and set undisturbed at room temperature.
Cure Time
Let the candle cure for at least 48–72 hours before use. This allows the fragrance to stabilise and the texture to fully set.
Usage
Light the candle and allow it to melt for 5–10 minutes
Blow out the flame before use
Allow the melted butter to cool slightly
Pour a small amount onto the skin
Massage gently until it’s absorbed
The melted butter should feel warm, silky, and non-greasy when applied. The shimmer does not show on the skin when added in small quantities.
This makes the body butter candle an excellent addition to any bath, body, or self-care range.
Safety Note
• This is a cosmetic candle, not a standard candle. Usage rate for fragrances should not be more than 2%, which is skin-safe for leave-on use products for fragrance oils
• Never use candle-only fragrance oils
• Always test the temperature of the melted wax before applying to the skin
• Keep your product covered with a jar lid at all times to keep dusting settling into your candle
• Store in a cool environment and keep away from children
• The product is intended for external use only.
