02 The Method
Prior to formulating, ensure that all your packaging, equipment and workspace is clean and sanitized. Put on nitrile gloves and cover your hair.
Phase A: In a small (50ml) beaker, begin by hydrating the Xhantan Gum in the Vegetable Glycerine. Stir well, this will form a small fluid paste. Set aside to proceed to B.
Phase B: Dissolve the Silk Powder in the Distilled Water. Stir until it has completely dissolved.
Take the A mixture and pour it into the B mixture. This will thicken the water mixture a little bit. Stir well. You may use a milk frother or small whisk to stir this mixture as it gels.
Phase C & D: Add in the C ingredients and stir. Then follow with the D ingredients.
Check the pH of the serum using a test strip. The ideal pH range is 5.5–6.6. Adjust if necessary.
Package the mixture into amber serum bottles. Label and store.
Formulating Notes:
This formula is customizable with different actives or extracts of your choice.
In your formulations, maintain your final formula between 5.5 and 7.0. Below pH 5.0, the copper ions can dissociate from the tripeptide complex, rendering it inactive.
Avoid chelating ingredients like Disodium EDTA in the same formula, as they will strip the copper from the peptide.
Usage:
Use on clean hair, pump a few drops and massage it in. Let the peptides do the rest.
Safety Note
• Conduct a patch test before first use
