Ingredients

Heated Water Phase

  • 215.325g | 47.85% distilled water
  • 67.5g | 15% vegetable glycerine
  • 4.5g | 1% panthenol powder (vitamin B5)

Heated Oil Phase

  • 18g | 4% Glyceryl Stearate (and) PEG-100 Stearate
  • 85.5g | 19% sunflower seed oil
  • 22.5g | 5% unrefined shea butter
  • 27g | 6% cetyl alcohol

Cool Down Phase

  • 2.25g | 0.5% Liquid Germall Plus™
  • 2.7g | 0.6% peppermint essential oil
  • 1.35g | 0.3% allantoin
  • 2.25g | 0.5% Vitamin E MT-50

Optional Coloring

  • 1.125g | 0.25% mica (green recommended, red as a second choice)

Preparation Steps

  1. Prepare a water bath by bringing about 3cm/1″ of water to a bare simmer over low to medium-low heat.
  2. Weigh the heated water phase and oil phase separately into heat-resistant containers. Melt thoroughly in the water bath.
  3. Replenish the water phase weight with hot distilled water if needed, then combine the water and oil phases.
  4. Blend with an immersion blender in short bursts until it starts to thicken. Switch to hand stirring as needed.
  5. Weigh and mix cool down phase ingredients separately, then incorporate them into the master batch once it cools to 40°C.
  6. Divide the mixture into two portions. Add mica to one portion for coloring, and leave the other portion uncolored.
  7. Lay alternating lines of colored and uncolored body butter on parchment paper, roll, and transfer to a piping bag fitted with a large piping tip.
  8. Pipe the striped mixture into a clear jar. Leave space for the lid to avoid squashing the design.

Store the emulsified body butter in a cool, dry place. With proper preservation, it should last at least a year. Discard if you notice any changes in color, texture, or scent.
