Why Use Cleansing Balm?
Cleansing Balms clean the face by removing makeup, pollution and impurities from the skin. They are highly beneficial and should be incorporated into your daily morning or nighttime skincare routine.
By removing impurities and excess sebum from the skin's surface, your pores are left open and unclogged! This will assist in getting rid of pimples and preventing breakouts.
How Do I Use It?
- Scoop up some balm (about the size of a coin) into your fingers and apply to dry skin.
- Massage into the skin, targeting areas that have excess makeup or impurities.
- Rinse off with water.
Method & Storage
- Prepare a water bath on a hot plate or stove at medium heat.
- Weigh and combine all the ingredients in a suitable heat-safe mixing container.
- Place the mixing container into the water bath and allow the ingredients to melt completely.
- Prepare an ice water bath while the ingredients are melting.
- Remove the mixing container from the heat and stir all the ingredients to combine well into a uniform mixture.
- Place the mixing container into the ice bath and continue stirring until solid bits start to form.
- Remove from the ice bath and continue stirring to combine the solid bits.
- Keep placing and removing the mixing container in the ice bath while simultaneously stirring until the mixture reaches medium trace. The consistency should be similar to unwhipped heavy cream.
- Pour the mixture into a suitable storage container and allow it to set for approximately one hour.
Why I Used These Ingredients
Medium Chain Triglyceride Oil: It is a lightweight, non-greasy oil that facilitates the removal of sebum and oils on the face, since like dissolves like.
Medium Chain Triglyceride Oil
Medium Chain Triglyceride Oil, also known as Capric Caprylic Triglycerides, is a fractionated coconut oil extracted from coconuts using a process similar to separating cream from milk. It serves as an excellent carrier for essential oils and can be blended with butters and waxes to create emollients for DIY cosmetic products.
Emulsifying Wax NF: The emulsifier in this formulation. This ingredient allows the balm to be easily rinsed off using water, since it is an oil-based balm.
Emulsifying Wax NF (Vegarol EW 300)
Emulsifying Wax NF is a nonionic self-emulsifying wax suitable for creating both thick and thin emulsions, depending on the concentration. It offers mildness, exceptional stability, and ease of use.
Cetostearyl Alcohol: The thickener in this formulation. It allows the balm to maintain its consistency and creaminess.
Cetostearyl Alcohol
Cetostearyl Alcohol, derived from plant oils, is a blend of cetyl and stearyl alcohol, serving as an emulsion stabilizer, viscosity-increasing agent, and surfactant booster in creams and lotions. With versatile application in various emulsions and solutions, it offers emollient properties to skincare and haircare products, forming a protective layer to prevent moisture loss and soften and condition dry skin and hair.
